Without the hint you get after inputting the wrong answer 3 times, this would have been impossible to figure out. I think a lot of it also gets lost in translation. Essentially, “26 friends” refers to the letters of the alphabet. The puzzle starts with the word “NINE” and at each step one letter comes and one letter disappears, changing the word one letter at a time.
